The industrial advisory committee has been constituted by IIT Guwahati in each department to enhance the industry-academia interactions. The industrial interaction advisory committee for EEE Department is constituted with the following members:

1) Dr. Karun Malhotra

Biography:

Dr. Karun Malhotra is the Managing Director of Murata Business Engineering (India) Pvt. Ltd (MBEI). This company, with its office in Hyderabad, was established in Jan 2017 as a 100% owned subsidiary of Murata Manufacturing Co., Ltd, Japan (MMC), the world's largest company for passive electronic components, wireless modules and sensors. MBEI has a very specific purpose of creating and growing new business in India with local partners and within the local eco-system. He is also actively engaged in becoming a bridge between Japanese and Indian companies as part of the “Make in India” program via his own independent company in Japan. His key words for creating new business are FIND. CONNECT. GROW. For Murata, his focus areas are Energy management, Energy storage (for EV industry) and affordable Health care devices for mass population. He is very active in bringing the power electronics manufacturing eco-system from Japan to India.

Until, Dec 31 2016, Karun was the Director of Corporate Technology Planning & New Business Development Group at the parent company in Japan, MMC. In that role he was responsible for planning, promoting & coordinating the corporate strategy for new technology & new business/ applications with a focus on energy, healthcare and automotive business areas. He was actively involved in globalization of corporate R&D and creating working partnerships with various global external institutions and companies. Collaboration and Innovation are the key words in his mission to accelerate development of commercially attract ive products and solutions. Karun is now implementing his philosophy at MBEI.

Karun is a graduate of IIT Delhi and after post graduate (Master’s and Ph.D.) studies at McGill University, Canada and Kyoto University, Japan, he joined Murata in Japan in 1990. During his tenure at Murata he had spent almost equal amounts of time in R&D, production, marketing, new business planning, acquisitions and corporate technology division. He was also deputed as an expatriate in the USA for close to 10 years. Karun is fluent in all aspects of Japanese and has lived there for 36 years.

 2) Dr. Sunil Sherlekar

Biography:

Dr. Sunil Sherlekar is the Chairman and CEO of SankhyaSutra Labs. Pvt. Ltd., a company incubated by Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research, an institute funded by the Dept. of Science & Technology, Govt. of India. The company is focused on scientific computing with an initial emphasis on Computational Fluid Dynamics. Dr. Sherlekar is also proposer of and a member of the Technology Mission for Indian Railways announced in the Railway Budget in 2015. From Sept. 2010 to April 2015, Dr Sherlekar was the Director of Parallel Computing Research at Intel Labs in Bangalore. Earlier he was the Founder & Head of Research at Tata Computational Research Labs in Pune (2006-2010), the Head of Embedded Systems R&D at Tata Consultancy Services (2002-2006), the Chief Technology Officer at Sasken Communication Technologies (1992-2002) and on the faculty of Computer Science & Engg. at IIT Bombay (1982-1992).

Dr. Sherlekar has a B.Tech. (Elect. Engg.), a M.Tech. (Computer Science & Engg.) and a Ph.D. all from IIT Bombay. He has published several papers in the areas of Electronic Design Automation and VLSI Signal Processing, High-Performance Scientific Computing and a book on VLSI Signal Processing. He was an Associate Editor of IEEE Trans on VLSI, on the Steering Committees of ASPDAC and International Conf on VLSI Design and on the Executive Committee of India Semiconductor Association. Dr. Sherlekar’s current areas of research interest lie in modelling of physical systems and design of algorithms and data structures for extracting optimal performance from modern evolving hardware. Dr. Sherlekar is a Fellow of the Indian National Academy of Engineering, an adjunct Professor at IIT Bombay and an adjunct Professor of the Academy of Scientific & Innovative Research (set up by the Council of Scientific & Industrial Research, Govt. of India).
